On June 19, 2024, Ogun State joined the global community in commemorating World Sickle Cell Day. The event, marked by vibrant celebrations, heartfelt speeches, and widespread community involvement, aimed to raise awareness about sickle cell disorder and support those affected by it.
Opening Ceremony




The event began with an inspiring opening ceremony at the June 12 Cultural Centre Kuto Abeokuta and continued at Rolak Hospital, Ijebuode. Keynote speakers highlighted the significance of the day, sharing personal stories and the importance of continued advocacy and support for those living with sickle cell disorder.
Speech by the First Lady, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun

The highlight of the event was the heartfelt speech delivered by the First Lady of Ogun State, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun. She emphasized the importance of community support and continuous advocacy for those living with sickle cell disorder. Her words resonated deeply with the audience as she shared personal anecdotes and reaffirmed the government's commitment to providing resources and support for affected families.
Public Health Education





Health professionals and volunteers conducted educational sessions for participants. Attendees learned about the symptoms, management, and genetic counseling related to sickle cell disorder.

A Landmark Achievement
Universal health coverage (UHC) means that all people have access to the full range of quality health services they need, when and where they need them, without financial hardship.
The Governor of Ogun state Prince Dapo Abiodun, through the Ogun state Health Insurance Agency has signalled the commencement of Universal Health coverage to the Sickle cell community in the state. This is the first of its kind in Nigeria!
